The Humbling

2014

The Humbling is a 2014 comedy-drama directed by Barry Levinson, based on the 2009 Philip Roth novel of the same name. It stars Al Pacino, Greta Gerwig, Dianne Wiest, Billy Porter, and Kyra Sedgwick.

The film follows aging actor Simon Axler, who is suffering from intermittent bouts of dementia. After a brief hospitalization from an incident during a Broadway play, he begins an impulsive affair with a friends’ daughter.

It was screened at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival and the 71st Venice International Film Festival, and was released on January 23, 2015, by Millennium Films.
