the story of the overnight relocation of the Baltimore Colts to the city of Indianapolis, FEATURING reactions FROM fans, interviews with the teams owner, and how the band kept the spirit of a professional football team alive until the arrival of the Baltimore Ravens in 1996.
30 FOR 30: THE BAND THAT WOULDN’T DIE
2009
In late March of 1984, a moving company secretly packed up the Baltimore Colts’ belongings and its fleet of vans snuck off in the darkness of the early morning, leaving a city of deeply devoted fans in shock and disbelief. More than most NFL teams, the Colts were an integral part of the city, and fans struggled to cope with losing the team they loved.
For the 12 years that the city was without an NFL team, the band continued to play, acting as musical ambassadors for the city, keeping football alive until the NFL returned.
Levinson, a long-standing Baltimore Colts’ fanatic, probes the changing relationship of sports to community and tells the story of the city’s loss through the eyes of the Baltimore Colt’s Marching Band.
